Hon. Zulkifli Bin Baharudin ![]() Real Audio Presentation (22:35 min) (Installation Guide) Asia in Transition Zulkifli Baharudin, a parliamentary member in Singapore, discussed some of the problems facing Asia at the end of the millennium. Economic crisis in Asian countries, he said, was a huge catalyst for change. In addition, he argued that in order to bring about change in Asia it was better to offer alternative mechanisms than to demolish existing ones. However, he pointed out that liberalization has its drawbacks. In the future, he said, Asian nations could expect tremendous structural unemployment. The question, he concluded, is whether that is the price that has to be paid in the interest of long-term goals. |
