David Brin On the conference conclusion and agenda In my opinion what we can do is make a short list of a few things that we recommand should be added to the world's agenda. Small things, targeted things that either private money or corporate money or possibly some government money, may look at this document and say: ah, yes, that is an 'i' that needs to be dotted, this is a 't' that needs to be crossed. There are many meetings taking place in the world like this. This meeting could highlight a dozen or half a dozen items and say: somewhere out there, why don't you take care of that little thing and help to add bricks to the new world. My suggestions for these small items would include: - leaving ideology behind and going for pragmatic problems solving by new means of dsipute resolution; - possibility of a non-ideological and cultural neutral definition of sanity - the question of the 'toxicity of ideas,' whether some ideas are intrinsically and toxic. (This is an old debate which needs to be revisited.) |
