Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker
Prof.
Dr. Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker is professor of biochemistry at the University
of Munich since 1977, and since 1990 visiting professor at Harvard Medical
School, where he became a Member of the Visiting Committee of the Harvard
Medical School Board of Overseers in 1994. Since 1998 he has served as
President of the German Research Society, where he was Vive President
from 1987 to 1993. Since 1984 he has been Chairman of the Laboratory of
Molecular Biology at the Munich University Gene Center, and since 1997,
corresponding member of the Enquête-Commssion of the German Parliament
on the chances and risks of recombinant DNA. Professor Winnacker's main
fields of research are the molecular biology of DNA replication, DNA recombination
and, more recently, prion diseases. He has published more than 100 articles
and several books, among them: From Genes to Clones (1987) and The Genome
(1997).
