Prof. Dr. Frederic Vester Director, Research Group for Biology and the Environment, University of Munich, Germany Prof. Dr. Frederic Vester is director of the Studiengruppe für Biologie und Umwelt in Munich, which he founded in 1970 as a private institute for research, consulting and publishing research results in the area of biology and the environment. Professor Vester developed the "sensitivity model", which enables scholars to analyze complex systems. Network systems and network intelligence are the basic questions he strives to answer in all his research projects. Professor Vester is one of the pioneers of the environmental movement. He has gained wide recognition for his unemotional approach and sound knowledge. The fact that the Studiengruppe never depended on public subsidies allowed him to deal with difficult subjects and to break taboos in research on cancer, nuclear energy or development policy. He studied chemistry in Mainz and Paris, received his Ph.D. in Hamburg, and taught at several universities including Yale University. Since 1993, he has been a member of the Club of Rome. |
