Dr. Karlheinz Steinmüller
Office for Future Research (Sekretariat für Zukunftsforschung), Gelsenkirchen, Germany

Dr. Karlheinz Steinmüller is a future researcher at the Sekretariat für Zukunftsforschung in Gelsenkirchen, which was founded in 1990. The main subjects of his current research are the methodology of future studies and the history of future thinking. Dr. Steinmüller worked on the use of science fiction for future studies and developed scenarios on biomedicine and on unexpected discontinuities (wild cards). He is one of the few science fiction writers from the former GDR who managed to bridge the gap between the not very promising reality in Eastern German society and the visionary future plans of the heroes in his science fiction stories. Dr. Steinmüller graduated in physics and received his Ph.D. in philosophy.
