Dr. Samuel L. Popkin Dr. Samuel L. Popkin has served as an adviser in US Presidential politics since 1972, working with George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton. In the 1992 campaign, Dr. Popkin worked on polling and strategy for the Clinton campaign, while in 1996 he worked on debate strategy. In 1976 and 1980, he did special research on debates for the Carter campaigns, and in 1980 he played Ronald Reagan during President Carter's debate rehearsals. From 1983 to 1990, he consulted with CBS News on survey design and analysis. Dr. Popkin is a Professor of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego, and currently director of the university's Washington Center. He has served on the faculties of Yale, Harvard, and the University of Texas; he earned his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. |
